Politics and War

I was out grocery shopping a few weeks earlier when an older gentleman and I sparked up a conversation.

He was probably in his late 60s to early 70s, and the conversation started casually, as most conversations do in a grocery store aisle.

But he quickly started talking about more specific topics like the state of the country and wasn’t too satisfied with how things were going.

After a few minutes of conversation, we parted ways, but I continued to think about what he said and, in particular, how he said it.

His comments about living through the Vietnam War era and his projection of distrust in the current government stood out.

As the evening continued, I thought more about this and how different wars and eras influence our views on politics.

The more I thought, the more there seemed to be a connection not only to our views on foreign policy but also our views on domestic policy.

In this article, we’ll discuss how the influence of different wars has guided our views today on foreign policy, why these views trickle down to domestic issues, and how they have influenced a change in ideologies from both major political parties.
